It's not often that Suveg Cellars premieres a brand new varietal years in the making. After years of discussion, planning, and aging, we're proud to present the first Lagrein produced by Suveg Cellars, our 2019 vintage from Paso Robles named "Wake Up Call."
Many of you are probably asking, "What on earth is a Lagrein?" Lagrein, like Barbera, Dolcetto, or Nebbiolo, is an Italian grape varietal. While the latter 3 hail from Piedmont, Lagrein is grown in Alto Adige in Northeast Italy. The grape produces dark, extracted wines with the richness of Petite Sirah. Our 2019 vintage of Lagrein expresses itself in a similar manner, packed with thick blackberry fruit, espresso, black pepper, red licorice, and a host of spice notes. Rounded by 30 months of aging in neutral French Oak barrels, this hefty wine has serious aging potential, and can be drunk now with proper decant time.
If you want to know why we named the wine "Wake Up Call," ask Shawn or Devin in the Tasting Room!
