Wine and Cheese Pairing Course With Craig Suveg and Deborah Duvall

Wine and Cheese Pairing Course With Craig Suveg and Deborah Duvall

  • 12132 California Street Yucaipa, CA, 92399 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us for a special Wine and Cheese Pairing Course with Deborah Duvall and Craig Suveg at the Downtown Tasting Room of Suveg Cellars.

During this 2 hour course on Tuesday, August 14th, Deborah and Craig will explain the intricacies of wine and cheese pairing, the subtleties that determine which wines go with which cheeses, and guide you through 6 different wine and cheese pairings.

Pairings are listed below:

Suveg Cellars 2016 Viognier and Dutch Edam

Notes of honeysuckle, lush white peaches, ripe melon, fresh orange peel. The wine's naturally low acidity is perfectly balanced by its brightness, vibrancy and long crisp finish. We're pairing the Viognier with Babybel. A French version of Dutch Edam cheese sold internationally by 'The Bel Group, France' since 1952. Today nearly 75% of Mini Babybel is consumed outside of France. This is a semi-hard cheese made from pasteurized cow milk. The crisp fruitiness of the wine compliments the creamy smoothness of the cheese.

Suveg Cellars 2015 Roussanne and Comte

Our 2015 vintage is a classic representation of a traditional Rhone-style blend of 93% Roussanne and 7% Viognier. Full-bodied, aromatic and complex wine hints of garden herbs, lime blossoms, quince, fresh white peaches, Bosc pear, melon, and honey. We're pairing our Roussanne with Comte (also called Gruyère de Comté or Comte Fort Saint Antoine). A French cheese produced in the Jura Massif region of Eastern France. This hard mountain cheese is matured in special caves where the cheese gets its unique taste, texture and color. Comté is ripened for a minimum of 4 months to 18 or 24 months.

Suveg Cellars 2014 Primitivo and Italian Truffle

An opulent, well-balanced wine with hints of cherries, stone orchard fruit, subtle vanilla oak, slight smokiness and clove and cinnamon spice. We're pairing the Primitivo with Italian Truffle. This semi-soft, creamy cheese is made from cow’s milk and is laced throughout with slivers of black truffle. It's earthy and aromatic without being overwhelming and is a good match with the smokiness of the Primativo.

Suveg Cellars 2014 Sangiovese with Toscano with Black Pepper

Rich with aromas of cherries, bold red fruit, violets and orange peel. Elegantly finishes with subtle oak, mild tannins, and lively acidity. We're pairing the Sangiovese with Toscano with Black Pepper. Robust, nutty flavor brings aged Parmesan to mind, but also a creaminess like a farmstead Cheddar. Black pepper crusted edges add a stronger flavor which pairs well with the tannin and acidity in the Sangiovese.

Suveg Cellars 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon with Gouda

Suggestions of blackberry, cherry, currant and ripe fruit, resulting in a generously complex and finely balanced Bordeaux varietal. We're pairing the 2014 Cabernet with Gouda, (or "How-da" as the locals say) A Dutch cheese named after the city of Gouda in the Netherlands. It is a semi-hard cheese with a nutty taste and creamy, smooth texture

Suveg Cellars 2014 Attitude Adjustment (Nebbiolo) with Emmental

Nebbiolo - Fresh picked cherries, red licorice, tar, pipe tobacco, leather, violets, rose petals, forest floor, and hints of espresso like bitterness. We're pairing our Nebbiolo with Emmental (Emmentaler or Emmenthal) is a yellow, medium-hard Swiss cheese that originated in the area around Emmental, Canton Bern. It has a savory, but mild taste.

Tickets are $50 per person. If you are in our Wine Club, stay tuned for an email to receive your Wine Club Discount with a private link to purchase tickets.

Live Music: Craig Suveg Plays Selected Pieces From Bach on Cello

Join us Sunday the 29th of July for a special presentation of Craig Suveg playing selected pieces from Johann Sebastian Bach on the Cello.

Many don't know that before Craig became an acclaimed winemaker, he was a semi-professional musician specializing in stringed instruments. Inspired by the greats, Craig still plays his Cello on a near daily basis and decided on this rare night to break out the Cello and reincarnate a bit of Johann Sebastian Bach into the Uptown District of Yucaipa.

This event is at our DOWNTOWN TASTING Room at 12132 California Street, Yucaipa CA 92399. Click the facebook link for more details.

Wine Release Party: Attitude Adjustment

Suveg Cellars is happy to announce that on Saturday, July 28th, we'll be adding a new wine to our family. Our Nebbiolo, Attitude Adjustment, made its premiere at our Wine Club Pickup Party this last weekend and did so with a splash, already becoming one of our top selling wines. Attitude Adjustment lives up to its name, with big tannins, acid, power, and length on the palette. Aged 38 Months in Neutral French Oak to tamp down the bold Nebbiolo tannins, this wine is bold and hearty yet approachable now, and will likely last close to a decade.

The festivities are at our downtown tasting room located at  12132 California Street, Yucaipa CA. Below is a link to our Facebook event for directions and more details.

Deductive Wine Tasting With Craig Suveg

Suveg Cellars is proud to present our deductive Wine Tasting Course!

This intensive 3 hour workshop provides the student with the opportunity to hone their analytical blind wine tasting skills through a series of group tastings and lectures.

Students will be presented 6 wines; 3 white and 3 red and will learn to use proper wine tasting techniques in order to deductively extract logical conclusions based on the evidence presented in the glass.

This workshop promotes student confidence in analyzing wine by using the Deductive Tasting Method designed by the Court of Master Sommeliers. By identifying each wine tasted using a Tasting Grid format, the student will consider the color, fruit characteristics, non-fruit characteristics, structure and finally offer a conclusion concerning the varietal, region and vintage of each wine presented.

This workshop also increases the students understanding of the relationship between theory and tasting as well as calibrating and improving the student's tasting technique, experience and tasting vocabulary.

Ticket prices for the Deductive Wine Tasting Class are:

$50 for non-Wine Club Members

$40 for Rhone Ranger Wine Club Members

$37.50 for In Vino Veritas Wine Club Members

If you are a Wine-Club Member, email us at info@suvegcellars.com and we will respond with a link to a custom ticket purchase page that reflects your Wine Club Discount.

For other members of the public, purchase tickets using the link below. Happy Tasting, and we'll see you on July 10th!

  • Suveg Cellars Downtown Tasting Room (map)

This Saturday and Sunday, Suveg Cellars will be hosting a Yucaipa Wine Industry Event for those looking to get involved and ask questions about the industry's development. Since the last City Council meeting, we have had an outpouring of support for the burgeoning Yucaipa Valley Wine Industry, with many people asking how they can participate. This is why we're getting members of the Yucaipa Valley Wine Alliance Board to come together and discuss their experiences building our nascent wine industry, and what's to come in the future.

Saturday from 3pm - 5pm we will have 3 speakers:

Board Member Mike Stubbs will discuss how winery finances work, as well as the in and outs of fiscally managing a growing wine business.

Board Member David Cohen will discuss the benefits that an AVA brings to the city in the form of a support service industry.

Board Member and President Craig Suveg will discuss the overall vision of a Yucaipa Wine Industry, and what it means for the future of the Yucaipa Valley.

Sunday from 3pm - 5pm we will have 2 speakers:

Board Member and Vice President Preston Todd, the largest grape grower in the Yucaipa Valley will discuss managing a vineyard, growing grapes, and how to grow more wineries like his own.

Board Member Anita Matlock, Owner and Winemaker at Yucaipa's second bonded winery, Wildwood Oak, will speak about winemaking, running a winery, and where she sees the Yucaipa Wine industry heading.

This event will be at the Suveg Cellars Downtown Location. Please share this event with anyone who wants to learn more about the industry. See you this weekend!
